Our Advantages

The department has three schools of thought created by prominent scholars and authors of works in English Philology which are now considered classical (B.A. Ilyish, I.V. Arnold, M.V. Nikitin).
The programme is designed to provide doctoral students with an opportunity to:
  • acquire a broad theoretical base reflecting current cutting-edge research within Germanic Philology and learn about the features common to the development of all Germanic languages along with the specifics of the development of each particular language
  • understand the complex nature of language and text viewed from the anthropological perspective
  • master the key concepts of contemporary science
  • develop holistic thinking and critical thinking skills
  • understand the links between different disciplines studying the same phenomena
  • learn to design and carry out comprehensive research in a variety of fields, including lexical and cognitive semantics, pragmatics and communication theory, text linguistics, text interpretation, possible worlds semantics, and creativity of language personality
  • present their research results at major research events: the 91 Conference on Psychology in Education, I.V. Arnold Seminar Workshop, M.V. Nikitin Readings (National Round Table) and as many as five regular research and methodology seminar workshops organized by professors of Department of English Philology
  • acquire the skills of team research
  • publish research papers and apply for research funding
  • take part in Russian and international research projects
